San Marino offers the greatest flexibility for the choice of the Seafarer Employment Agreement to be adopted for the seafarers working on San Marino flagged vessels as no restrictions are imposed in connection with the nationality.
In this spirit San Marino has developed a specific MLC compliant Seafarer’s Employment Agreement that can be used by any shipowner and seafarer with the solely exclusion of San Marino resident or citizen workers.

The San Marino SEA template is available as the Annex I of the Policy Letter SMPL – 2022-MLC-009 – “Terms and Conditions for employment of seafarers under the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC), 2006”.

It provides a high standard of care and protection for the seaman and a good flexibility for the shipowners and can be therefore adopted as a smart choice for regulating in a fair and efficient way the terms of the employment.
